The philosophy here at Stonegnome is that these web pages should be open and accessible to all. Unfortunately, while there is no intention to offer a preferential browsing experience to users of any particular software, it is a sad fact of Internet life that code that works well on one browser does not necessarily work well (or even at all) on another. Throughout the Stonegnome site, I have tried to keep browser-specific solutions to individual presentational challenges to a minimum but current browser variations mean that there are necessarily some aspects of the site that do not work well in some browser/operating system combinations. As far as I am aware, real problems exist only with very old (as well as some very new!) browsers. Hopefully, few people will be inconvenienced by those oddities that exist.
All of that said, Stonegnome is, by its very nature, an experimental and, in some respects, cutting-edge site. Which means that on-going site development, targeted now at increasing compliance with web standards in addition to experimentation with emerging technologies, will inevitably start to leave the users of some old, or particularly esoteric, browsers increasingly in the cold. I'm sorry but that's just how things are.
Below, you will find a summary of the present, known compatabilities of this site with the browser you are currently using to access it. If you find this information to be incorrect, there is a form at the bottom of the page for you to report details of my mistakes. (Please be aware that the information given here is based entirely on the Agent Identification String (AIS) which is passed to the Stonegnome server by your browser. If you have chosen to adjust your AIS to make your browser masquerade as something else, as some browsers permit, then you can expect strange results here!)
In addition, I also give an indication of your browser's likely future compatibility, based on the intended development path of the site, taken together with your particular browser's current capabilities (or its developers' stated intensions for short-term future releases). For browsers which are now out of their development cycle (the Netscape Communicator family, for instance, or MS Internet Explorer on Macintosh platforms) this information can almost certainly be taken at face value. For browsers in active development, on the other hand, each new release is likely to render all such information out of date. For this reason, I have included an indication of the latest version of your browser to have been extensively tested on this site. If you find that this is falling behind publicly available versions, please do use the report form below to notify me, both of the fact of this page's datedness and also of your experiences of how your latest baby performs here.
Finally, in cases of major incompatibility, either current or projected, I have included suggestions for alternative browsers that you might want to consider using. This is not because I have any vested interest in any particular browser; this list is offered simply to help you improve your overall browsing experience. Bear in mind that if your current browser is having problems on Stonegnome today, you may find that it has problems on an increasing number of sites tomorrow!

Details of your browser's behaviour have not been entered in the Stonegnome browser database. Shame on me! Please use the form below to notify this omission.
If your browser is not as indicated here, or if you have encountered errors different from those outlined, please use the form below to report these discrepancies. The more information you are able to give, the more useful your submission will be in correcting errors and increasing the site's compatibility with multiple browsers. It would help me further the cause of increased compatibility, if you could also provide a contact email address, so that I can, if necessary, contact you for clarification of your problems, or to ask you to try out any modifications that may be made as a result of your report. Rest assured that your email address will not be used for any purpose other than to further the development of this site. Naturally, you may omit this information if you do not wish to be contacted. You may, in fact, leave any of the fields blank, in the event that you do not wish to divulge any particular item of information.
